TITLE: Former Netscape Chief Strategist warns of Digital Disaster at the Cyber Security Workshop.

Kevin G. Coleman former Netscape Chief Strategist and now a Strategic Advisor with the Technolytics Institute is presenting at the Cyber Security Workshop held May 10th and 11th at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In his presentation, he will detail what he believes the top three issues we face concerning cyber crime and cyber terrorism. Citing recent statistics there are over 50,000 serious computer attacks reported every minute. In addition, he point to a recent security study that found over 90% of respondents had experienced and online security breach within the past twelve months. The attacks are becoming more sophisticated and complex with simultaneous attacks being coordinated from multiple locations in multiple countries. “Today, we are ill prepared to defend against a serious cyber-attack.” He points to software quality issues, no early warning system for cyber warfare in an UnRestricted Warfare (URW) environment and lack of a holistic approach to addressing online security that includes regulations and enforcement that would hold organizations accountable for lack of security as the three top issues. He concludes with “Unless we address these issues now, we are headed for a digital disaster!”
